Flashlight & Stun mechanics


The flashlight was something I wanted to include from the conception of the game, however its implementation and role changed significantly throughout development. originally the flashlight was just that, a flashlight you could use to navigate through dark areas. after playing the game however I found the cycle of chasing to outrunning tiring and flat and the flashlight would almost always stay on because there was no reason not to use it. the idea of using the flashlight to slow the enemy  temporally was a fix I came up with too solve both of these issues. after this change the flashlight was more of a resource management mechanic. the change made chase encounters much more tense instead of running players would have to use the flashlight to put distance between them and the monster.
